Energy Saving Shape Memory Alloy for wind turbine (code: 50984)
- increased energy efficiency for wind turbines
Final Decision Maker: wind turbine construction firms
Current blade designs rely on rigid designs, allowing the blades to attain maximum efficiency of flow only in optimum conditions. Because of this, the blades are energy inefficient, causing increased cost due to loss of energy in the transfer from the environmental medium to the blades, or vice versa.
Now, using a new, patented technology known as Shape Memory Alloy, blades constructed from this material can automatically change the shape and angle of themselves to adapt to the immediate surrounding environmental conditions. Being designed to react to specific temperatures, the blades will automatically align themselves in the most efficient position and angle, optimizing performance. This will allow blades to provide more force without increasing power output, or conversely, collect more power from the force of other sources, such as wind and water. This adaptive behavior requires no additional external power source, as the first-of-its-kind shape memory alloy is specifically engineered to ensure its reliability.
