Constant Power, Wide Angle, Universal Mechanical Joint (ID 53722)
- Constant power delivering mechanical joint for construction equipment and hydraulic systems
Final Decision Maker: Crane Manufacturers and Hydraulic system manufacturers
Introducing the Constant Power, Wide Angle, Universal Mechanical Joint (CPWA Mechanical Joint), a new mechanical joint that enables constant power at wide angles generating versatile and extensive uses without jeopardizing power. Typical mechanical joints limit rotation, movement, and torque, but these limitations are erased with the CPWA Mechanical Joint. The universal joint is a multi-axis joint with epicyclic gearing, which means at least one wheel axis itself revolves about another fixed axis. Durability and power are not only preserved but increased through the designs' unique rotation. It provides continuous, effective, and efficient power delivery at all angles of operation, regardless of any movement. The invention allows continuous and constant power distribution from a source to an axle across a wider angle, whereas competing products on the market do not accomplish this type of power distribution. The proposed device allows a designer to mount a driven item to a power supply, without regard to the alignment between the power supply and the driven item, using a combination of CPWA Mechanical Joints. These universal joints can be used to replace hydraulic systems by routing the power from the prime mover to the winch using CPWA Mechanical Joints and drive shafts. Replacing hydraulic pistons eliminates the potential for hydraulic leaks. Another application could be in the transportation or construction industry for development and use in improved cranes. The universal joint would allow re-positioning of the crane power source for improved loading capabilities. This concept has been modeled using advanced modeling software. A first stage working model has been built and is available for illustration of the concept.
