Digital Self Heating Home System
- Environmentally Friendly Home Heating Option for new Home Builders
Final Decision Maker: New Home Owners
The Digital Self-Heating Home (DSHH) system is the first enviromentaly friendly solar home heating system with low cost long term storage. When added to a new custom built or "spec" home the DSHH system increases the market value of the home, appeals to the value based 'green' buyer, reduces the individual's dependence on fossil fuel for heating and its related pollution, and reduces carbon footprint. The DSHH sytem uses a patent pending energy capture, control and storage system to make sure the heat energy is there when the home needs it. The first enviromentally friendly solar home heating system that converts passive solar energy into an active heating system and stores extra energy for use when the home demands. Currently the pilot 'test' homes, one located in area where tempertaures get below -10 C, have been in operation for up to 3 years. To date no ancillary heat has been required with the exception of occasionally having a fireplace lit. The homeowners are 100% satsified with the results. Barry Ryan and his family from Wellington, New Zealand using the system since March 2008. "For the first year we have used no ancillary heat at all, just the DSHH system." Winter temperatures in Wellington (Similar to Vancouver but windier) can get to 5-10 degrees Celcius above zero. Research has shown that over 75% of Albertans would pay more for a home with green options. Of those, 80% say that cost savings on energy bills is a main motivation. 50% say they want to reduce their environmental impact, and 43% believe there are health benefits to living in an environmentally friendly home. This positions DSHH as not only a choice for home owners building a home but also for New Home builders that want to stand out in a touchy real estate market. By adding the DSHH system as a green option on their spec homes they would appeal to a buyer that expects to pay more for a home with green options. Builders can use this product to differentiate themselves in the market place. With the carbon credit and carbon footprint becoming more and more important, businesses and individuals are looking for ways to impact both. This system uses a renewable energy source so it qualifies on both fronts.
