Forest Savers Trail Construction Service
- Environmentally Gentle Brush Clearing for Trail Construction
Final Decision Maker: Parks, Equestrians, Land Managers, Landowners, X-country skiers, Trail user associations, Recreation planners
The unique Forest Savers system is a more versatile and cost effective method for trail construction while remaining gentle on the land and trees. The ability to effectively and efficiently complete several tasks with one machine, often simultaneously, with minimal disturbance to the soil or the environment gives the system a significant advantage over hand labor or other mechanized methods. Over the past several years Eco Systems, Inc. and Forest Savers LLC have developed a highly versatile, safe and economical mechanical system for cutting and shredding unwanted vegetation ranging from grass to small trees. The unique Forest Savers system is highly productive yet small enough to be comparatively inexpensive, easily transportable and can work around valuable trees and structures without collateral damage. In fact the Forest Savers system can improve the ecological health, beauty and recreational potential of the land in addition to reducing the risk of wildfires and creating low impact trails. The Forest Saver machine can efficiently cut and mulch brush, leaving no unsightly brush piles, and can also lightly till the trail, removing small sharp stumps and smoothing the surface without damaging the roots of nearby trees. The versatility of the bi-directional raking system combined with the exceptional efficiency of the cutter/shredder allow very clean work to be rapidly accomplished in a wide variety of conditions. Compact, multifunction attachments (not shown on the web site, but available as a CD video on request) allow larger dead, dying and overcrowded trees to be removed, often when the ground is frozen or covered with snow. Forest Savers has two machines in operation. After several years of innovations and modifications, the machines are now proving very reliable with 80-90% up time, low operating costs, high quality results and productivity 6-20 times that of the common hand cutting and chipping method. During the testing, it has been found that not only does the Forest Savers system efficiently reduce wildfire risk and beautify woodlands, but it also effectively restores overgrown fields and pastures as well as constructs recreational trails with minimal disturbance to the soil.

The debris rake on the front of this specialized tractor is used to clear rocks and fallen trees and to fill ruts. The brush cutter on the rear cuts and mulches brush. |
Inventor(s) Commentary: Easily replicated production units lend themselves to operation by semi-autonomous crews that are motivated by sharing in profit and ownership. Can be franchised.
Forest fire prevention, invasive vegetation control, tick habitat reduction and aesthetic improvement in the wildland-urban interface provide additional markets.
The inventor develops solutions to environmental problems and launches profitable companies based on those solutions. Inventor remains as a director and investor. |
