 | Amazing I have a pair of these that I use for lawnmowing, just amazing. Sound is very muffled, comfortable to wear and almost impossible to lose. They hang around your neck so you'd really have to want to lose them..
Also use them for shooting and they are much superior to my "ear muff" hearing protection, and much cooler. Posted by: jjsteele25 on 06/21/2010 | | | |

SensGard ZEM Hearing Protection with patented noise cancelling technology
- Patented Noise Canceling Affordable Hearing Protection for Workers
Final Decision Maker: Health and Safety Directors, Purchasing, Buyers
The patented ZEM protects against damaging noise while allowing useful sounds such as speech and warning signals to be heard. It's noise cancellation without electronics, batteries and bulk. The ZEM technology was developed by the world renowned researcher Dr. Jozef Zwislocki. Dr. Zwislocki founded the respected Institute for Sensory Research at Syracuse University and among his many accomplishments, is a member of the elite National Academy of Sciences. According to "Behavioral Studies of People's Attitudes to Wearing Hearing Protection" (2002, Institute of Occupational Medicine), the most common complaint is the inability to hear useful sounds such as the speech of co-workers or warning signals. The second biggest complaint is that current products are uncomfortable. Ear muffs are bulky, heavy and hot and ear plugs are difficult to insert properly and makes workers suseptible to ear infections. The ZEM addresses both the ability to hear speech, and is lightweight, hygienic, less obtrusive, cooler and easier to wear than current devices. Employers like the ZEM as we demonstrate real savings of over 60% on their hearing protection budget. Ear plugs are the most expensive form of hearing protection as the average worker uses 5 to 6 pairs daily costing up to $250 per employee per year. A ZEM package that includes the ZEM plus spare foam cuffs will cost less than $40 per employee per year. Among the hundreds of awards and testimonials from independent tests and users is this from Mike Coleman, a mechanic at O'Hare International Airport: "After several months of daily use the SensGard hearing protectors have fulfilled all of my expectations in my search for the "ultimate" in affordable hearing protection. I work as an aircraft line maintenance mechanic on the ramp in the very noisy environment of O'Hare. Noise reduction is excellent across the board. I really put them to the test while standing under a running Rolls Royce AE 3007A jet engine checking for oil leaks with the bottom cowling open! The added benefit of being able to discern normal conversation over the din is truly remarkable. Their small size and light weight are a definite plus over the bulky "muffs" I had been using. They are also much more comfortable to wear when the temperature soars."

Inventor Commentary & Alternative Development Scenarios

|
| Inventor(s) Sales Goals |
| Minimum Goal |
$1 M |
Current GOAL |

The ZEM uses complex sound physics to reduce sound intensity. The device is tuned to achieve true sound without distorting or eliminating noise. Sounds are heard at a safe level. |
Inventor(s) Commentary: The ZEM technology can be leveraged into several unique designs. Unlike plugs and muffs that have a fixed design, we move sound away from the ears and this allows us to create several very different variations for our products, i.e. behind the head, under the chin etc. Our new patents will leverage the base technology into other products including safety glasses, communication devices, headsets etc. This will create additional revenue streams into our many markets. |
